S.H.A.R.E. Sharing Hope, Acceptance, Resilience and Experience. A burns peer support program - NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation Network at Large S.H.A.R.E. (Sharing Hope, Acceptance, Resilience and Experience), is a formalised peer support program for patients with a burn injury who are inpatients or outpatients at one of three New South Wales (NSW) Health sites. The program is an initiative of, and coordinated by, the NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI). Burn survivors are assessed via a formalised recruitment, screening and training process before being deemed ‘emotionally ready’ to undertake the role of peer supporter. The burns patient is then peer matched with a burns survivor based on certain selection characteristics. S.H.A.R.E. is championed by volunteers who are burn survivors, who share their story in an endeavour to improve patient outcomes. The engagement of burn survivors as Peer Support Volunteers offers patients a support system that is based on the fundamental premise of ‘shared experience’, something beyond what can be offered by the health professional. Whilst the volunteer and patient share the commonality of shared trauma, the group is otherwise diverse, hence the process of empowering patients in the selection of volunteers in nominating preferred characteristics such as age, gender, culture, and injury site. www.aci.health.nsw.gov.au Level 4 Sage Building, 67 Albert Avenue

Amistad Inc Network at Large Recovery. Relationships. Respect. Amistad came to life in 1982, begun by families of adults with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI). These families knew that what their loved ones really needed was something not provided by other agencies -- a safe place to spend their abundant free time where they would be treated respectfully and where they could engage in useful activities. In the past few years Amistad has become a leader in developing services that are organized and delivered by peers. We now operate three individual programs -- the original Peer Support and Recovery Center in Portland, we have expanded to include a Peer Support program in the Emergency Room at Maine Medical Center, and established a Peer Support Program inside Riverview Psychiatric Center. http://www.amistadinc.com/ 66 State Street
